Hexane gas is a hydrocarbon organic compound related to alkanes. It is a clear, odorless liquid that is practically insoluble in water. Hexane is a flammable solvent whose vapors are also flammable. Although it does not dissolve in water, it mixes well with organic compounds.
Hexane applications:
Hexane is most often used as an industrial cleaner. Due to the fact that the substance does not dissolve in water, it shows high efficiency in the destruction of molecules and the separation of fats.
Vapors of hexane are harmful to the human body: there is a risk of damage to the respiratory system and vision. The substance is an integral part of gasoline and boils at a temperature of +68°C. The solvent can accumulate static electricity, which generally increases the risk of an explosion.
For Hexane storage tightly closed containers or specially prepared containers are used. The room must be dry and ventilated. Heat sources are not allowed. There shall be no oxidizers or flammable compounds near the storage area.
